15th Glasgow (Eaglesham) Scout Group

Safe Scouting- information for parents and carers

Parents and other responsible adults have a responsibility to support their young people to enjoy safe adventure in the group:

- Read carefully and understand instructions for planned activities and events
- Ensure that their young people are in appropriate health to join in activities and
events
-  Encourage their young people to bring their best behaviour to Scouting, and to
listen carefully to instructions from leaders
- Drop off and collect their young people on time from inside the hall (Beavers,
Cubs) so that important messages are not missed (unless Covid rules mean this
isn’t permitted or advised)
- Ensure that OSM (Online Scout Manager) holds complete, accurate and current
information about their young person at all times including emergency contacts, and particularly in relation to food allergies and ailments that may impact the food consumed during activities or restrict participation in the activities
- Inform leaders if there are changes to a young person’s health information or other circumstances
- Ensure that drivers and their vehicles adhere to legal requirements such as insurance, tax, MOT, seatbelts, child seats, alcohol limits, mobile phones and the highway code when transporting members to, from or during Scout activities
- Take part in a section rota (where applicable) so that a safe adult to young person supervision ratio is maintained
-  Inform Leaders or Group Scout Leader of any significant concerns that they have in relation to health and safety
- Parents also have a responsibility to help the Scout Group resolve health and safety issues by helping with the work on the Hall, grounds and equipment and / or supporting the fund raising activities that finance these improvements.
